Ask about this pieceThe story
Vintage Chinese-style porcelain fishbowl planter or jardinière, decorated in Macau and retaining its original “MADE IN MACAU” sticker.
This impressive statement piece features a richly decorated black-ground exterior in the Famille Noire style.
Floral cartouches, chrysanthemums, scrolling foliage, raised enamel details and gold accents cover the exterior.
The wide coral-red border is decorated with repeating white flowers and gilt scrollwork.
The interior is beautifully decorated with orange koi or goldfish swimming among stylized green aquatic plants and floral motifs.
The original “MADE IN MACAU” sticker identifies it as later Macau export porcelain, most likely dating from approximately the 1960s–1980s.
The decoration appears to combine printed or transferred outlines with hand-applied enamel coloring, raised details and gilding, a technique frequently used by Macau porcelain decorators during this period.
