The story
Antique Hobbs, Brockunier & Co. covered butter or candy dish dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1886.
This piece matches the company’s documented No. 323 “Dew Drop” pattern, also known as Hobnail or Pineapple and Dew Drop. The pattern was introduced around 1886 by Hobbs, Brockunier & Company of Wheeling, West Virginia.
The distinctive combination of satin-frosted glass with warm amber-yellow decoration was known as “Frances Ware.”
The dish features rows of raised dewdrop-shaped hobnails, an amber crimped rim and a matching domed lid with an amber glass finial.
A lovely example of nineteenth-century American pressed glass that displays beautifully despite its condition issues.
