The story
Completely intact piece of World War I homefront history. This antique oval portrait depicts a 17-year-old Merchant Marine sailor named Walter William Benson, taken in 1917 just as the United States entered the war.
The portrait is housed under its original outwardly curved convex "bubble" glass pane and secured in a beautiful segmented antique oval wooden frame.
The back features a handwritten period identification label reading: "Walter William Benson - 17 yrs old - 1917 - Merchant Marines." The cardboard backing also displays a vintage factory inventory stamp reading "32".
