The story

Large hand-embroidered and hand-quilted decorative textile

The cream-colored ground is densely covered with fine hand-worked running stitches, producing a richly textured and lightly rippled surface. Colorful folk-art motifs include stylized fish, birds, botanical forms, water-like lines, rosettes, and geometric border designs.

It is finished with a satin backing and black edge binding. The backing and binding were applied by sewing machine, while the decorative embroidery and dense quilting appear to have been completed by hand.

Dark traveling threads from the embroidery are visible beneath the light-colored front fabric in places. This is part of the embroidered construction and is not printed decoration.

The long, narrow proportions suggest use as a decorative wall hanging, bed runner, furnishing panel, or long table or chest cover.

No maker’s label, signature, or country-of-origin tag is present. The Kantha-style identification is based on its running-stitch quilting, hand embroidery, motifs, and comparison with documented South Asian textiles. The precise maker, country, region, and age have not been independently verified.
