The story

This is is a beautiful, highly detailed original World War II mixed-media portrait of a U.S. Army soldier, hand-drawn in theater immediately following V-E Day.

This piece is an authentic work by the American portrait artist Harry Worthman, who traveled through occupied Europe capturing the likenesses of servicemen.

The artwork is hand-signed, inscribed "GERMANY 1945," and retains its original period wooden frame.

Executed skillfully on textured tan artist paper, the portrait uses a masterfully blended combination of soft pastels for the smooth skin tones and striking blue eyes, alongside charcoal and graphite pencil for the uniform details and deep shadows.

The portrait captures a soldier serving in the US Army Ordnance Corps, identified by the clear flaming bomb and crossed cannons collar disk insignia on his lapel.

The artist intricately rendered his earned service ribbons at the bottom, which include the Army Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal featuring multiple bronze service stars.

Condition:
The artwork itself is in excellent structural condition with vibrant colors and crisp details. The backing paper on the reverse shows typical vintage wear and tearing consistent with its age, but holds the framing wire securely.

The glass is intact. Please review photos for exact details and visual measurements.
